Autumn Leaves are Falling Down

We had such a fun and busy week filled with some familiar activities and some new ones. Monday included a nature walk in search of "Fall leaves." We didn't do too bad considering this is SoCal! The kids used the new vocabulary ("leaves, fall") in their sentences and phrases; they also shared leaves with a friend or two.

Tuesday involved painting with the leaves we collected the previous day. It is always a great idea to add on to prior activities to show the kids what else can be done with an activity, in this case, the leaves we had collected. Afterwards, some of them decided to have snack time at the rug area, somewhat family-style! Some of us decided to stay at the table and read "5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed" from beginning to end.

On Wednesday, we made "stained glass" leaves with tissue paper, construction paper, and contact paper. These came out great as each child added their own personal touch to their leaf!

Afterwards, some of us became adventurous with the car tower and track ;)

On Thursday, we called upon our inner scientists as we made our very own "discovery botteles" filled with water, oil, and faux fall leaves. This activity was such a hit with all of them!

For next week, we continue on our "Autumn/Fall" theme, while throwing in some Halloween-themed activities. We didn't have a chance to read "Go Away, Big Green Monster" this past week, so we will do so next week (http://www.amazon.com/Go-Away-Big-Green-Monster/dp/0316236535). Our song of the week will be "Dem Bones" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e54m6XOpRgU). Have a great weekend!!
